Unwind with Alexis' Destress During The Holidays Challenge

Record Scratch Can we take a minute to pause and just say that this year has been insane, not like last year was any better, but 2021 has been a doozy. What could only be explained as the result of having to stay inside and away from family last year, it seems like everyone is trying to catch up on lost time for this holiday season. That means double the "holiday spirit", family dinners, get-togethers, and of course, shopping. If I’m being honest, it’s exhausting, I’m EXHAUSTED.

Currently, I am swimming in a sea of boxes from several online purchases, that I DON'T regret, but my wallet does.

Supergreat loves all things beauty, but nothing is more important than mental health and checking in with ourselves and friends, it is just as good a gift as anything at Ulta. The Anxiety & Depression Association of America states that 15 million adults are affected by Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), that is more heavily found during the cold, winter months. Adding to the pressure of holiday activities, this time of year isn’t great for everyone.

Personally, I love the holiday season. I love being able to spend time with friends and family, buy people special things I know they‘ll appreciate (my love language to others is gift giving), baking cookies, decorating, all of it. However, with all the back and forth between my home in NYC and my family in MD, I need a break. And I'm sure all of y'all do too!

Destressing and unwinding during the holiday’s looks different for everyone. Maybe you like to do a sheet mask and eat your favorite snack, or maybe you’re a fan of a good gratitude journal. Whatever it may be, share with us how you unwind between holiday events—that means actually taking the time to do those things!

A few things that I like to do to unwind:

  • Okay, so yeah I do a sheet mask or some form of clay mask
  • Eat yummy snacks
  • Talk to friends
  • Talk to a therapist
  • Use services like Better Help, Headspace, Calm
  • Do a fun makeup look
  • Drink a glass of wine, hot coco, or tea
  • Put on red lipstick
  • Deep condition
  • Go for a walk
  • Sit in my car and cry (we all need a good cry from time to time)

Now It's Your Turn

Distract yourself, enter this challenge and share how you unwind during the holiday. Please remember that everyone deserves time to take a step back and find some semblance of peace, if even for the 60 seconds it takes to record on SG. You have until 12/17 to enter this challenge, as always only one entry per challenge will be counted. Everyone who tries it will get 20 coins and one winner will get 100!

Good Luck, have fun, and don't let the invasive questions from family members get you down!

Did you know there was such a thing as a "warmline"? Similar principle to a hotline, but for non-emergency help. Please visit Mental Health America or Wellness Together Canada for more resources.
