Eyeshadow Ideas For Going Out Again

26 people have responded

This time last year, the notion of going to a nightclub, a crowded bar, or even a movie theater was totally unthinkable. As we all know, the pandemic sent us into a state of being that was completely unheard of—social distancing, seeing friends strictly through Zoom, and wearing a face mask 24/7 became the new normal at lightning speed.

We don’t know about you, but we’ve been over the pandemic for months now. While it had a few perks—like sweat pants all day, every day—the whole never-leaving-the-house thing got old VERY quickly. Happy hours and birthday parties on a computer screen just don’t hit the same.

Mercifully, it seems like COVID is almost out of our lives forever (we can hope, right?). The vaccine is here, and cases are on the decline. Likewise, many states have already started to lift their social-distancing regulations, which means bars, restaurants, and more will be fully re-opening for business.

Of course, even as case numbers decrease, we all want to stay as safe as possible. However, at this point, the idea of going out gets more and more reasonable every day. We’re just praying for hot girl summer 2.0.

We’re getting closer to the old normal with each passing day, which seems to suggest that the normal going-out scene will be back in full swing soon enough, too. That being said, if you’re planning to start going out again, you’re going to need a few Insta-worthy makeup looks up your sleeve as you debut into society once again.

Today, we’re going to focus on one particular aspect of those upcoming looks—eyeshadow.

The Eyes Make the Look

Flawless eyeshadow is an absolute essential for a night out. It can make or break the entire fashion ensemble. Plus, it allows us to express ourselves and our fashion through fun, trendy, bold ideas. So, we’re more than excited to be discussing eyeshadow ideas with you today.

Some of us have been practicing our makeup skills throughout the whole pandemic, while others haven’t touched a shadow palette since last March. No matter which camp you fall into, we’ve got you covered. With only a few weeks until summer officially kicks off, you have ample time to perfect all of these iconic shadow looks.

We won’t keep you waiting a minute longer. Let’s dive in!

One: Trendy Green

From manicures to makeup, bright shades are going to be all the rage this summer. Maybe it’s just the manic excitement of finally being set free after months in quarantine, but people are really embracing bold, bright colors.

For anyone who’s hoping to join in on the vivid fun, allow us to make a suggestion: green eyeshadow. We love the green look featured in this article. Pair your favorite shade with graphic eyeliner, another one of the season’s biggest trends, to truly make a splash.

It seems like green has been (and will be) one of this year’s biggest colors in fashion. So, why not coordinate your whole outfit to match that flawless green eyeshadow? You’ll be ready for a night out to remember.

Two: Metallics

Metallic shadow is a great choice for a night out. If you’re feeling bold and you’re ready to go all-in for your night out, consider trying a metallic look. It adds a sense of drama and confidence to any outfit. You really can’t go wrong.

Here’s one problem we have in the summertime: makeup (especially eyeshadow) seems to melt right off. The heat of the season, combined with the buzzing crowds and wear-and-tear that your makeup will see on any given night out, tends to cause smudges and smearing all over the place.

Well, we want to make a suggestion: the foiling technique. We know what you’re thinking: what on earth is foiling? Is there tinfoil involved? We’ll tell you right off the bat—no, not there isn’t.

In reality, foiling is pretty simple. You only need a few tools, all of which you probably have in your makeup bag already. Grab your favorite metallic shadow, setting spray or primer, and an eyeshadow brush, and you’re good to go.

First, spritz your brush with setting spray or soak it in primer for a second. It should be damp, but not too wet. Then, swipe some eyeshadow onto your brush and test it out—see if the eyeshadow loses its sparkle, or if it remains pigmented and shimmering. Finally, if your eyeshadow can withstand a little dampness, apply it to your eyelids.

This should ensure that your makeup is super shimmery and bright. Plus, it will last SO much longer. Now, you can stay out dancing and drinking until two in the morning without giving your makeup a second thought.

If you try foiling, be sure to leave a review and let us know how it goes!

Three: Classic Smokey Eye

Let’s do a full-180 real quick. If you’d prefer to stick with something a bit more subtle than a dramatic metallic shade, we would highly recommend a timeless smokey eye. This is a perfect option for a more casual hangout, dinner with friends, or a romantic date. It’s so versatile! Plus, as a true classic in the eyeshadow game, you’ll be as fashionable as ever this summer.

To achieve the perfect smokey eye, you’ll only need a few things: concealer (to prime your lids), an eyeshadow brush, a blending brush, eyeliner, and, of course, a palette with perfect smokey shades.

For this look, simply apply a light shade all over your lid. Then, take a darker shade and add it to your crease. Finally, apply your darkest color to your lash line. Put on some highlighter, and that’s it—you’re done!

A smokey eye is a great option to have in your back pocket, just in case you haven’t been struck by any creative ideas for your next look. However, even though it’s a staple, the smokey eye look is still just as cute as anything. It brings the focus towards your eyes and really makes them pop. At the end of the day, what more could you want?!

Four: 90s Blue

Taylor Swift once said, “I come back stronger than a 90s trend.” Whether you’re a Swiftie or not, you have to admit that she was 100% right: The 90s are coming back in every way, shape, and form. Taylor knew exactly what was up when she penned that lyric.

From clothes to nails to makeup, iconic trends from 30+ years ago are returning in full force. One of those makeup fads? Blue eyeshadow.

Some might call this look cringe-worthy, but we beg to differ. Sure, some of the frosty-blue shades worn by celebs back then don’t quite fit with our style norms these days. Plenty of 90s trends come off cringey at the outset, but once they get the 2021 treatment, all of that disdain disappears.

This is so true for blue eyeshadow. Beauty fans these days have adopted the trend and made it their own, opting for rich tones like cyan, cerulean, and sparkled navy instead of the typical icy-blue of the 90s. As we said before, this year is all about bright, expressive eye makeup. These bold shades of blue speak to that desire to embrace full-on, screaming color.

Still unsure about rocking this reincarnated trend? Just remember—we lived through a pandemic! Be bold! What else do you have to lose?

Five: Shadow Liner

This next idea fits right in with the rest of the creative, colorful looks we’ve discussed so far. If you’re searching for a look that will really make you stand out, you may want to try shadow liner—AKA, using eyeshadow as your eyeliner.

There are tons of ways to get creative with this concept. Firstly, you could try a look like this one from Versace. Basically, it features thick, colorful eye-wings that serve as eyeshadow (or kind of like shadow and liner rolled into one?).

On the flip side, a similar trend is to use eyeshadow as your eyeliner. Like, literally applying eye shadow along your lash line as if it were eyeliner.

To achieve this look, try wetting your brush before dipping it into your eyeshadow. This should ensure that the shadow is spreadable and super easy to work with. Just swipe the brush along your lash line as you normally would, and you are good to go!

Of course, you can try these looks with any shade you like, from bright pink to black. All you need is an angled brush and an eyeshadow palette, and recreating this look should be a breeze.

Six: Graphic Eyeliner

So, this one isn’t strictly an eyeshadow idea, but we just had to mention it here. It has emerged as one of the biggest trends of the past year—graphic eyeliner.

Graphic eyeliner uses distinctive shapes and curves to adorn the eyes and eyelids. The trend leaves a lot of room for experimentation. Basically, you can get as creative and out-there as you want.

One major subsection of the graphic eyeliner craze is something called floating eyeliner. This method completely puts aside any notion of natural, blended eyeshadow for a bold and artistic style. It consists of a singular, crisp line of eyeliner just above the crease (hence the name, floating eyeliner). Many times, this floating line goes on top of whatever eyeshadow you choose.

If you’re an expert with traditional eyeliner looks, mimicking this style should be quite simple, really. Also, as an added bonus, you probably already have everything you need sitting in your makeup bag. It really is a simple, quick way to elevate your makeup and to stay looking as cool and trendy as a TikTok star.

We should note that this is just one way to apply graphic eyeliner—there are countless examples of gorgeous, artistic, trendy ideas floating around social media. Better yet, instead of mimicking someone else’s look, go ahead and experiment with your own ideas. In 2021, we’re expressing ourselves with no shame!

Seven: Nude

Finally, as our last eyeshadow idea on the list, we’re getting back to the basics: nude eyeshadow.

After months of working, socializing, and living from home, many people have fully embraced all things natural, including makeup. If you fall into that category, you may want to consider a classic nude eyeshadow look that will work for any and every occasion.

You probably already have a high-quality nude palette in your makeup bag—who doesn’t? If you’re aiming to stick with a subtle, low-key style when you return to the going-out scene, that palette will be your best friend.

Although nude eyeshadow isn’t quite as “trendy” as graphic eyeliner or bright blue shadow, it will certainly look just as flattering. That’s what makes it so timeless.

Final Thoughts on Eyeshadow For Going Out

After spending so many months cooped up inside, it’s safe to say that pretty much everyone is absolutely thrilled about returning to relative normalcy. That being said, there’s no doubt that all the re-opened bars, restaurants, and clubs of the world will be packed this coming summer.

Hopefully, when that time finally comes, you’ll be prepared with a brand-new wardrobe, a backlog of creative makeup ideas, and a newly refreshed zest for life. We certainly will be.

When you hit the town this coming season, you can expect to see bright colors, artistic designs, and some timeless shades. Whatever you choose, we know you will look flawless.
