The "back to school mentality" never leaves us, and that's why September will always be a time of change and freshening up. It's also why the September issue is the most important issue of the year for Vogue, Elle, Cosmo, and pretty much every other major glossy magazine. It's an exit from the laziness of summer, the funk of t-shirts and tank tops paired with the same old jean shorts into layered and thoughtful fall apparel. People are in a buying mood, and this applies to beauty as much as it does to fashion; it's no coincidence that Allure Magazine also chooses September as the time to crown the winners of the Best of Beauty Awards.
There are no rules when it comes to fashion and beauty, but there is an urge to start wearing the colors seen around us in nature. I like to turn in my blue, green, and yellow eye shadows for burnt oranges, reds, browns, and taupes. I also swap out my bright pink lip colors for maroons, and go a little less hard on the highlight and go with a deeper blush instead. Gone are the days when you're too sweaty to wear your hair in anything but a bun or high pony, and in come the days when your hair and skin need a lot more hydration.
