Chichi Eburu started Juvia's Place because she wanted to create eyeshadows pigmented enough for darker skintones. Eburu only launched her company in 2015, and in this short amount of time her products have become must-have staples in the kits of makeup artists and makeup lovers alike.

Erika Briana Clark is the Founder and CEO of eHoneySkin. During her junior year of college as a Pre-Med student she volunteered at the Skin of Color Research Institute at Hampton University where she studied the role that molecular markers play in keloid fibrosis (keloids are found most commonly in darker skin tones). The acne she suffered from a stressful school schedule furthered her interests in skincare, and that's when she created eHoney.

Sacha Cosmetics is a Trinidad and Tobago-based cosmetics company that was founded by Satyakama "Kama" Maharaj in 1979 with the goal of providing cosmetics for varying skin tones. The fact that this brand is older than the rest does not mean it isn't still recognized—Maharaj was recently voted the EY Caribbean Entrepreneur of the Year in 2016 and Country Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young in 2017.

KJ Miller and Amanda E. Johnson created the concept of Mented while discussing why it was so hard for them to find the perfect nude shade of lipstick. "We created Mented Cosmetics because we believe every woman should be able to find herself in the world of beauty, no matter her skin tone," reads their website. Their products we're created to be perfectly pig-Mented for dark skin tones.

One of the most influential editorial makeup artists since the 1990s finally released her own brand in 2015, which included products designed to recreate her most celebrated runway looks. Named by Vogue as one of the most important makeup artists in the world, as well as awarded an MBE by the Queen of England, McGrath brought the glamour of the runway to our faces with her collection of matte lipsticks, jewel-like eye palettes, and now a full complexion range

Founder Nancy Twine started her "naturally-driven and performance-based" haircare line Briogeo after she discovered that the natural hair products on the market were just meh. With her grandmother's homemade hair care recipes and the expertise of a cosmetic chemist, Briogeo is fast-becoming one of the most popular hair care brands because its products are just GOOD, and not just for natural hair textures but everyone.

Melissa Butler proved Shark Tank wrong when they rejected funding her startup The Lip Bar, a vegan and cruelty-free makeup line dedicated to diverse faces and skin tones with bold, vibrant colors. The brand's organically-built popularity brought it into over 450 Target stores, proving that makeup really does have power and that bold artsy makeup colors and animal-friendly formulations were sorely needed.

Makeup artist to tons of famous faces, AJ has done makeup on so many celebs (Fergie, Hilary Duff, Missy Elliott, Angela Bassett!) as well as having many editorial covers under his belt. He created his makeup line to fill his own kit with shades that worked on all skin tones—and for people who couldn't find the shades to match their skin tones. It fills the gap for artist-grade makeup with products and colors for any kind of look, from casual to glam.

Alyssa Simone founded her namesake brand, LOLA by Alyssa Simone, in 2014 as a fashion brand making acrylic purses designed with Lego brick accents. In 2015, her eye for design earned her a product license agreement with Warner Bros. to create the Wonder Woman emblem bag. A few years later, she created her first perfume, 1989, which many of our Supergreaters had the chance to redeem and instantly fell in love with at first whiff.

Meet Trinity Mouzon Wofford, the youngest black woman to launch a brand in Sephora. She co-founded Golde in 2017 with Issey Kobori with the mission to bring “good vibes to the wellness industry.” The independent Brooklyn-born brand makes superfood-boosted essentials for health and beauty. Whether you’re looking for a healthy drink or a healthy mask, Golde has them both.

In 1993, Lisa Price, daughter of Carol Price, launched a hair and body product brand from the kitchen of her home in Brooklyn. She began by selling her products at local flea markets and festivals. In 1999, she opened her first boutique, and in 2014 her products launched in Target, making them more accessible to all. Today, Carol’s Daughter is part of the L’Oreal family, and Price’s products are now sold in over 30k stores across the country. You can even find her Healthy Hair Butter on display at the African American History Museum in Washington, DC.

Dorion Renaud is the acot and model behind Buttah, a brand that infuses all their products with organic shea butter imported from Africa. The idea behind the brand came when he couldn't find any skincare products that he loved. "I couldn’t keep this discovery to myself knowing that there were men and women with melanin-rich skin just like me, who are actively seeking solutions for their complexion challenges," he writes on the brand's website. "I created Buttah Skincare for you and everyone who is searching for products that work. It’s a skincare regimen that was born out of my personal experiences and it’s luxurious, highly efficacious and affordable."

After not feeling confident in her skin for years, Abena Boamah-Acheampong founded Hanahana Beauty. She stopped buying skincare products without knowing what was actually in them and went back to using her mother’s concoctions made with nkuto (the Twi name for shea butter) and cloves. Hanahana Beauty’s mission is to create sustainably sourced, all-natural skincare while uplifting women of color through the Katariga Women's Shea Cooperative in Ghana, where the products are made.

When Rachel James graduated from the International Academy of Design and Technology in Chicago in 2012 she decided to start Pear Nova, a high-end nail brand that looks to luxury fashion and talented artists for inspiration. A year went into making the first collection of creme polishes, which have the smooth depth and texture of silk and leather.
