5 Products Savannah Swears by for Summer

by @vanzillascott

I have a makeup hoard; a lot of you already know this, because I filmed a series of reviews showing you my erm, collection. If you haven't seen it yet, here's part 1 (keep watching if you want to see the entire, scary thing). Despite the amount of things on my shelf that stare back at me everyday when I do my skincare or makeup, there are only a handful of things that I reach for every. single. time.

Lately, these are them.

Thing 1: Bomba Curls Dominican Forbidden Oil

So my hair is flat, there are no curls to speak of. That actually doesn't really matter; when I spoke to Bomba Curls founder Lulu Cordero, she reassured me that this product does something for everyone. It enhances your curls, it moisturizes dry and brittle hair, it nourishes your scalp (we all have one of those), and it makes your hair feel and look thicker. I've been wanting to grow my hair and I have a dry itchy scalp, so I put some on before showering, massage it in, wait a few minutes and wash it out in the shower. It smells so, so good, and it's a Supergreat Beauty Award winning product (for a reason).

Thing 2: Blunt Skincare Isolate Balancing Face Oil

I actually use both the Moonrock and Isolate face oils from Blunt Skincare, and I have for years. I discovered the brand in 2020 when I interviewed it's founder Stas Chirkov, and was blown away by his background and care for problematic weedwashing in the beauty industry. I apply a few drops of this oil at least twice a day, sometimes more when my skin feels extra dry. It's saved me after long days at the beach.

Thing 3: Everyday Humans Resting Beach Face SPF30 Sunscreen Serum

This stuff is just the best. For those of you who struggle with remembering (or frankly caring) about daily sunscreen application, this one is for you. It's hydrating, has zero white cast, and at the very least it can be your daily serum (with a secret SPF ability). Just watch me apply it and see it sink in seamlessly for yourself. I just realized that Gaby recently interviewed Charlotte Pienaar, the brand's genius founder.

PSSTTT, this product is only $12.50, which means that if you trade in 50 Supercoins for $5 off, you can get it for just $7.50 on the app. That's insane. I will be doing that after I finish writing this.

Thing 4: ILIA Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40

I'll never understand why I resisted trying this product for so long. It's so good. The best I've ever looked has been the times I was wearing this product under my makeup. My shade is BomBom, and I suggest you visit a Credo store (or Sephora, or Dermstore) to get a shade match and experience all that this product has to offer. You can clearly see the before and after in my review below.

Thing 5: Jones Road Miracle Balm

Jones Road is the latest brainchild of makeup artist and beauty legend Bobbi Brown. Throughout her career she has always emphasized that people don't need more beauty products, they need better ones—and this miracle balm is like a 3-in-1 godsend. It's a subtle blush, highlighter, and hydrating balm that smells like an expensive spa. My personal fave shade is Tawny, but honestly all of them are so pretty and look great.

Shop my summer faves

If there's one thing that brings me the smallest amount of joy and pleasure in this god forsaken world, it's a reliable product that makes me feel put together, protected from the sun, and more confident—and these products do all of that.

Also, some honorable mentions that I love:

  • About-face Shadowsticks and Line Artist pencils. Whenever I go out I grab one of these in a crazy color and just do something weird and fun with them.
  • Wander Beauty Mile High Club Mascara. It's a tubing mascara and it's not clumpy—it's perfect.
  • Freck Beauty The Original Freckle. I add freckles to my already existing ones for the perfect beachy, summer look, pretty much every time I go out in public.
  • DS & Durga Grapefruit Generation perfume. It smells like a rich lady grapefruit (does that make sense?). It's my summer fragrance this year.
