Welcome to Kinship Takeover Week! Meet Your New Holy Grails

Gen Z has proven time and time again that they aren’t bending their earth-saving activism for the latest and greatest shiny thing. They demand ethical sourcing and environmental practices from every industry, including the beauty industry, and they aren’t settling for low-quality products. Finally, beauty brands are starting to listen to demands for effective and sustainable ingredients. One of those brands is Kinship, a skincare brand focused on protecting your skin barrier and the Great Barrier Reef.

Alison Haljun, a former marketing executive for Benefit Cosmetics, and Christin Powell, co-founder of Juice Beauty, launched Kinship in November of 2019 as a skincare brand that is good for you and for the planet. Kinship holds itself to EU’s ingredient standards and Credo’s clean beauty guidelines, which means it banned over 1,300 questionable ingredients from its products. The brand also formulates with it’s trademarked kinbiome technology, which Kinship explains is like “kombucha for your face.” Kinbiome is a plant-based pre-probiotic ingredient that helps support a healthy skin barrier by letting good bacteria in and keeping bad bacteria out.

Kinship cares as much about the earth as it does about your skin. The brand uses recycled materials in its packaging to help put an end to unnecessary waste. The jars are made from Ocean Waste Plastic, the tubes are made from Post Consumer Recycled (PCR) materials, and all shipping materials are made from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified 100 percent PCR paper. So far, Kinship has removed two tons of plastic from our oceans and the brand encourages you to keep that same plastic out of our landfills with a step by step guide on Kinship’s website that teaches you how to recycle each product once it’s gone.

We gently introduced you to this brand a few weeks ago when we dropped Kinship’s newest product, the Mint Mud Deep Pore Detox Mask, but now we want to tell you about all the other products we’ve been loving from this environmentally conscious brand, and what you can expect to drop during this Takeover Week.

MONDAY: Naked Papaya Cleanser

Many acne-fighting cleansers leave your skin feeling tight and dry. Kinship’s Naked Papaya cleanser does the opposite. This gentle enzyme face cleanser is made with papaya, jojoba oil, and sunflower oil to hydrate and soften your skin without stripping it of its natural oils. A pump of this cleanser feels like creamy yogurt and smells like a tropical fruit smoothie.

TUESDAY: Insta Swipe AHA Pads + Gentle Exfoliator

These gentle exfoliating pads contain under 5% glycolic and malic acids, and are the perfect intro to AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids, which are water-soluble acids made from sugary fruits). Swipe them across your face and neck after cleansing and don't worry if you feel a slight tingle—it's doing its thing! You'll love your skin's new glow from within, and don't forget to wear SPF every single day when using acid exfoliators (we've got the perfect SPF for you below)!

WEDNESDAY: Supermello Hydrating Gel Cream Moisturizer

This moisturizer is cooling, quick-absorbing and so lightweight you'll wonder where the heck it went off to (the answer is into your skin). It contains plant-based ingredients like marshmallow root and coconut water, as well as hyaluronic acid to keep your skin looking plump and healthy.

THURSDAY: Pimple Potion Acne Treatment

Breakouts begone! This benzoyl peroxide-free acne treatment contains 2% salicylic acid to clear blackheads and prevent breakouts, retinol to promote skin health and improve texture, and bakuchiol to brighten skin. Unlike many acne treatments, this Pimple Potion from Kinship doesn’t dry out your skin or smell like paint. It feels like a hydrating moisturizer and smells like citrus. Even though the product is yellow, it blends into the skin so you can wear your topical treatment out and about and no one will know.

FRIDAY: Self Reflect Sunscreen

We unanimously agree Kinship’s Self Reflect sunscreen is a dupe for Supergoop’s Glowscreen SPF. This zinc oxide sunscreen makes your skin look smooth and glowy at a fraction of the price. Self Reflect is only $25 compared to Glowscreen, which is $36. The main difference between the two is that Kinship’s sunscreen smells sweet like vanilla and turmeric. It’s also reef safe so you don’t have to worry about compromising healthy reefs for healthy skin. You can have both!
