It’s BYBI Takeover Week! Introducing This Sustainable Beauty Brand From the UK

BYBI products under a rainbow overlay
Our community has made it abundantly clear through their reviews that they love beauty products that are good for their skin and good for the environment. They don’t want clear skin if it comes at the cost of our planet. Luckily, they don’t have to compromise because more and more beauty brands are listening and changing the way they formulate and package their products. We love highlighting brands that do good for the earth. That’s why we are so excited to introduce our Supergreaters to BYBI (pronounced “bye-bee”), a sustainable UK beauty brand that just launched in the United States on October 8th, 2020.

BYBI stands for By Beauty Insiders and it was founded in 2017 by beauty bloggers and skincare experts Elsie Rutterford and Dominika Minarovik. They launched their blog, Clean Beauty Insiders, in 2015 hoping to shine a light on beauty formulations and offer DIY skincare recipes. Through blogging they found that there weren't many skincare brands on the market that addressed their needs without compromising the planet so, knowing that the demand for sustainable skincare was high, they decided to launch their own skincare line to change the way this old fashioned industry operates.

BYBI has an ambitious goal to be the first carbon-negative beauty brand by the end of 2021 and carbon neutral by the end of 2020. The brand uses an internal auditing system called the Susty Score to determine the carbon footprint of each of their practices. Only the most effective skincare ingredients with the least environmental impact are included in the formulation of each BYBI product. Sometimes that means upcycling ingredients from other industries. The brand also partners with sustainable manufacturing plants that run on green energy to produce its products. Plus, the brand packages its product in the most sustainable materials possible. All of BYBI’s tubes are made from sugarcane polyethylene, a durable bioplastic upcycled from the remains of sugarcane after the sweet juice is extracted. The brand also packages in recycled glass containers that can be recycled again and again in an infinite loop. Finally, the shipping materials are made from grasspaper, which is made from grass pulp rather than wood and uses up to 80% less energy to produce. You can also find a step-by-step guide on how to recycle each BYBI product on the brand’s website.

Now that we’ve introduced our dear Supergreaters to BYBI and all the ways the brand does good by our planet, let’s dive into the BYBI products we will be dropping this week including two new launches!

MONDAY: Strawberry Booster

This booster is made from 100% upcycled strawberry seeds. BYBI works with juice manufacturers to collect the seeds removed from strawberries before they are juiced. Normally these seeds would be thrown into the landfill, but BYBI presses them to produce a high-quality oil that’s great for dry, flaky, or irritated skin.

TUESDAY: Bakuchiol Booster

You’ve probably heard of bakuchiol—it’s an collagen boosting alternative to retinol, which often irritates sensitive skin. BYBI’s Bakuchiol Booster is formulated with 1% bakuchiol suspended in a base of squalane derived from olives to soften and hydrate skin. Unlike retinol, bakuchiol doesn’t increase skin’s sensitivity to the sun, but you should still wear sunscreen while using this product because it’s good for your skin anyway.

WEDNESDAY: Mega Mist

Mega Mist is a hydrating and refreshing facial spray formulated with hyaluronic acid to plump; aloe vera, algae, and pomagranate to soothe; and rose, lemon balm and orange blossom floral waters to soothe. The result is plump, dewy, and bouncy skin whenever it's needed.

THURSDAY: Eye Plump (NEW!)

This overnight eye cream is formulated with bakuchiol to increase collagen production, hyaluronic acid to plump skin, and broccoli seed oil to moisturize the under eye area. BYBI works with a supplier that responsibly sources bakuchiol in India implementing the best farming practices. The broccoli seed oil is also cold pressed, a process that uses very little energy to produce.

FRIDAY: Milk Melt Cleanser (NEW!)

This cleanser is made from oat milk and oatmeal extract, which is a byproduct of the oat milling industry. It also contains vegan coconut yogurt extracted from fermented coconut milk to produce probiotics, which help maintain the skin's level of healthy bacteria. BYBI's Milk Melt Cleanser cleanses, balances, and softens skin while removing makeup and being gentle enough for sensitive skin.

Tune into the drops section of the app at 7 P.M. EST everday this week for a chance to redeem these BYBI products. Plus, be sure to join the lives on Tuesday and Friday this week. At 4 P.M.
