If lip oil were a woman, she would be the epitome of je ne sais quoi. “How does she do it?” others would ask, in awe of her ability to deliver care and shine in a single swipe.
The proof is in the pudding—the sweet smelling, oft-tinted pudding. Infused with good-goods such as fruit extracts, jojoba oil, macadamia, coconut, and vitamin e, these unique formulas deliver the lip gloss experience with behind the scenes work that only an oil can deliver, boosting your lips’ with hydration long after the product wears off.
The glossy look saw a rise in popularity after mass interest in wellness took hold. Matte, airbrushed perfection was out and dewiness was in. But what product could pick up where lip gloss left off? Meet lip oil: the lip gloss of the wellness age. Peek the most reviewed lip oils on the app ranked below.
I’ll be honest, I had a hard time looking away from my lips’ glossy reflection enough to write this piece. This red, candy apple-scented formula is addiction in a tube, and judging from your reviews, most of you agree. After applying with the finger-sized applicator about 24 times in 24 hours, this lip oil left my lips better than it found them.
This one lives up to the hype. From the sporty packaging to the thirst-trap name to the lightest of lightweight formulas, Wet Lip Oil Gloss is every lips’ dream. Smelling subtly of orange vanilla, this formula is like a soft slip for lips.
The face that launched a thousand lip oils; this product is a bit thicker and more tinted than your average. The applicator is in the running for Biggest Ever, which actually makes application a little less messy and a lot more enjoyable. Fortified with Jojoba and other bourgeois oils, the rejuvenating effects of this oil make braving any initial gloopiness worth it.
Versed's innovative version of the perfect lip care product ditches the petrolatum and substitutes it with shea butter, macadamia oil, and sunflower seed oil. Where most balms gaslight by providing moisture while applied then leaving you high and dry (literally), Versed is said to pick up where the under-achievers have left off in terms of long-lasting hydration.
Described as somewhat thicker than your average lip oil, NYX's own formula has received rave reviews for it's rosy sheen and slight plumping properties—all for the brand's signature low price point of $6. Supposedly fragrance free, we've also heard from you guys that it leaves behind a slight grape scent.
This has to be the first lip oil that’s felt like...oil. With incredible slip and a your-lips-but-better tint, Appleberry Lip Oil is one you can apply throughout the day without tint buildup (perhaps due in part to natural tint source of raspberry extract?). The flavor is barely there, but you’ll definitely notice the reparative payoff.
This last one is my recommendation for anyone who is looking for a lip oil with great color payoff. I'm the first to review it, but hopefully not the last. Revlon’s magenta-tinted lip oil acts as more of a stain, leaving behind a medium pink wash after the light formula has absorbed. No qualms with this one except to say that consistent application throughout the day without a separate balm as a buffer may lead to Highlighter Lips (you know, when you keep applying product and you get a pigment pile up).
